Business Development Manager

Stylus / New York

We're looking for a Business Development Manager to help grow the Stylus client base and maximise revenue.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop a business plan for assigned territory or industry vertical, identifying key players and implementing strategy to bring new clients on board
  • Liaise with Marketing, Client Services, Advisory and Content teams to gain a forensic understanding of the Stylus product 
  • Operating a solution sales approach, apply industry knowledge to understand marketing, design, consumer and other related strategies or development areas a b2b client may have and develop proposals to best position Stylus as a solution to these issues
  • Autonomously manage end to end process of sales cycle from researching leads to closing deals with proven ability to multi-task across managing multiple clients at different points of the sales process
  • Operate a ‘volume’ approach to sales as well as cultivate longer term ‘C’ level relationships to extend client relationship into advisory services New business
  • Be a CRM ‘master’, recording all activity in Salesforce 

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Educated to at least degree level in related discipline
  • An experienced solution-seller with minimum 5- 10 years b2b sales experience, ideally gained in a variety of industries and preferably selling into b2b companies and agencies
  • A skilled and resilient influencer and negotiator who can work under pressure and who thrives on meeting deadlines and exceeding targets
  • A results-oriented, commercially savvy and natural problem solver – key to fully understanding and articulating the Stylus offering
  • Highly analytical with demonstrable experience in selling subscription products as well as one off consultancy projects
  • Empathetic to customer needs, building strong relationships to create opportunities for growth within a client account.
  • Demonstrable interest in innovation, marketing, branding and design
  • Impeccable presentation and communication skills
  • Used to working autonomously as part of a small team, managing own research, admin (CRM updates) and initial outreach process
  • Familiar with CRM systems
  • Brings sense of team spirit

Content Director, Events

Stylus / London

We are looking for a Content Director to lead our Decoded Future events portfolio. Newly launched this year, our Decoded Future Summits bring together change-makers and visionaries from over 600+ global brands, retailers, agencies, startups and technology companies to discover, explore, learn and connect.

The Content Director will be expected to research and construct the programmes for all Decoded Future events. They will have ultimate control over all content, but will also manage the other event functions: sponsorship, marketing, delegate sales and operations. They will be the line manager for our small but passionately dedicated events team. They will be expected to develop and evolve our global event strategy, whilst keeping a tight control of the events P&L. Working across various departments within Stylus, they must be able to engage with different stakeholders to ensure business continuity and co-operation across teams. They must also be client-facing and develop key industry relationships in our target market verticals.

The Content Director will report directly to the COO and will be a member of the Stylus senior management team.

Key responsibilities:

  • Take full responsibility for Decoded Future events, from inception through to delivery
  • Research and develop the event programmes for the Decoded Future Summits, ensuring they contain top level content and high calibre speakers
  • Build strong business relationships with an extensive network of key industry contacts, including speakers, sponsors and associations
  • Monitor and understand competitor activity in the Stylus markets
  • Ensure the Stylus events team audit market needs, market dynamics and database development requirements before launching products
  • Identify and drive through new business opportunities that will benefit the Stylus event portfolio
  • Uphold and promote the quality and reputation of Stylus within its chosen markets
  • Attend regular meetings with the Decoded Future Strategic Partnerships Manager
  • Assist with the sales effort on Stylus events
  • Manage and guide the Stylus events team to ensure they perform to the best of their ability
  • Work closely with other members of the Stylus senior management team to further develop Stylus’ event portfolio
  • Manage relationships with freelance staff
  • Lead event project meetings
  • Act as the driving force behind all Stylus events
  • Manage and report on budgets: Ensure revenue targets are exceeded, costs are controlled and profit margins are monitored
  • Communicate with the COO of Stylus on progress/areas of concern

Required skills and qualifications:

  • Superior communication skills both written and verbal
  • First class presentation skills, with the ability to adapt any scripted communications to a specific conversation and react quickly to questions
  • Demonstrable on-going interest in innovation and trends in the creative consumer industries, marketing, brand and design related disciplines
  • Proven experience of producing complex events with multiple stakeholders
  • A high degree of professionalism
  • Strong organisational skills, able to multi-task and manage own workload
  • A high degree of intellectual curiosity; the ability to take disparate reports and create an engaging ‘story’ for a client
  • Ability to evaluate & analyse event activity and provide strategic plans
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders at all levels
  • Able to work independently but within a strategic framework
  • Capable of being a self-starter who can demonstrate enthusiasm and drive
  • Strong level of numeracy and excel skills is preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications

You will be an enthusiastic researcher and writer, with at least two years’ professional writing experience and knowledge of tracking insights and innovations in one or more of the following sectors: Food, Beverage & Hospitality; Beauty; Consumer Attitudes (US demographics); Retail; Media & Marketing; and Product Design.

Strong writing and visual analysis skills are essential, as is the enthusiasm to report on and research a broad range of lifestyle-related subjects.
